Keys Found!!!!

I lost my keys when I went out for a walk last night. It actually wasn't much of a walk. I went outside and lay down on the path in front of the building. I watched the moon, saw the stars as they started to pop out. It was delightful. Then I went for a quick walk up and down the block. When I returned, I couldn't find my keys. Ours is a locked building; I had to call papertigers to let me in. I searched the apartment. Then I went out again with a flashlight to search. I forgot to prop the door and didn't bring my phone, so I was out there for 45 minutes or so, looking uselessly through the grass. I knocked on neighbors' windows, trying to find a way in, but no one answered. Finally, I caught a man coming into the building who had been speaking French to the person who had dropped him off a moment before. I asked him, in French, whether he would let me in. He did. I was deeply upset by the whole incident; it was the straw that broke the camel's back on what had been a difficult evening. This morning, papertigers and I searched the grounds again and asked a neighbor if she'd seen them. She suggested putting up a notice; I did. Lo and behold, a neighbor had picked them up during my little stroll - I'd left them on the path - and had posted a note in his window asking me to call him, as he didn't know who the keys belonged to. He saw the notice at the mailbox and brought the keys to me.

I like my neighbors.
