Amazed

I can't believe how much, in retrospect, Michael Jackson's music has affected my life. I wasn't allowed to listen to him much as a kid, though he was not under the same complete ban as Madonna, which leads me to believe that Mama simply didn't like his music, rather than disapproving of him in general. I loved the Thriller video and was allowed to watch it even though I was scared half witless by it.

Losing him is losing part of my childhood. It's weird and I'm not sure how to cope.

In other news, I'd like to wish a happy 40th anniversary to all the Americans on my friends list. As usual, I urge you all to send some extra love to the drag queens in your lives. It takes a great deal of courage to be who you are; our world owes them a whole lot.

I find it's not his music so much as his videos that influenced my life. I like his visual style more than his musical style, I suppose. I loved how he tried so hard to make his own reality.
