Wherein We Are Very Merry

Up at an ungodly hour because I've caught the Plague from my mother and
papertigers, both of whom are sick. And for sick people, they are doing wonderfully well. We....
1) Went to my older sister's "meeting of the two families/birthday" party, which turned into an engagement party, as her boyfriend proposed to her on her birthday, and she accepted;
2) Joined my crazy Italian relatives for the traditional Christmas Eve get-together;
3) Opened a million presents on Christmas morning;
4) Participated in the Christmas Day party at my parents' house.
My family - both mother's and father's side, as well as the adoptive ones - adore
papertigers. I did have some worry over my Very Republican cousins, but they in fact love her to death, which makes me happy, since (despite their leanings) I love them to death, too. Santa Claus came and gave everyone tons of presents. My grandmother, aunt, my godsons' mother, and my adoptive family included her on their gift lists - even though some of them didn't know she was coming until the last minute. And neither of us got sick or overwhelmed, as we are bound to do when there are too many events and too many people around.
My best Christmas gift this year was seeing my two-week-old cousin; her mother, who is my younger cousin, is tired but well. And the baby is just gorgeous. Boy does my mother's family ever run to girls. If she'd been a boy, she'd have been the first one born to my mother's immediate family in (I'm serious) 60 years.
My mother has the flu (and today's her birthday, too),
papertigers has a bad chest cold, and I just woke up with a sore throat - and yet we are managing to have a truly beautiful Christmas season. I hope you are all having one, too.
