Feeling Cute (And Nice)

debboamerikYesterday, I was trying to cross a street against the light because it was cold and there were no cars and I dind't want to wait. I hesitated, though. I'm not so great at anything requiring a combination of physical coordination and judgment, where the stakes are death. A friendly-looking man started crossing from the other side, so I took a deep breath and went for it. As we passed in the middle of the intersection, he said, "As beautiful as you is, I would not have let anything hit you."
Well! I was completely pleased and tickled. His tone and manner were respectful, even sweet, so it wasn't him being slimy. He must get all the girls, acting like that. I'm a lesbian, and I was impressed.
Then, today, as I was filling in an interview form for a potential job, I turned to Myra's coworker E (the one I'm still kind of crushy on) and said, "What are my key strengths in dealing with people?" papertigers and I both tend to fall in love with words (hence our falling in love with each other?), and this was a great one. I didn't use it in my interview form, but it made me feel good to think about it.
Later, after I'd finished the form and gone to Kinko's to scan it in, right before I ran off to Gospel Choir, I stopped by E's classroom and told her that I think she has very friendly eyes. I've thought so for months, but have been too shy to say so, but since she paid me a compliment, I thought I'd return the favor.
Tomorrow ispapertigers's birthday. I'm so pleased to have her in my life. I'm going to be working most of the day, but in the back of my mind, there will be a happy birthday song and dance for this woman who makes me so happy. Happier than the random guy on the street? Definitely. Happier than E's compliments? Oh yes. Happy in a deep-down sort of way that flavors all the other happinesses I've been enjoying.
