old friends

Just took a long lunch hour to see my friend Davina, who is visiting the States on vacation. I haven't seen her in 6 years; she lives in Birmingham (the original city of that name). We met while we were both teaching in France. She's bought a house with her sister now and seems to be quite happy. She has also been enjoying her time in the US. It was lovely to see her; we have a kind of mass-e-mail-type friendship, rather than the highly emotional kind, so seeing her was relaxing as well as fun.
